The Fair Work Ombudsman has fined a couple almost $40,000 for the underpayment of a female employee. It was revealed that the employee had not been paid for overtime, not paid the appropriate penalty rates or the correct minimum wage. The employee was also entitled to allowances that were not paid and was not allowed toilet breaks and often required to work 12 hour shifts without any breaks.
As such the employee was underpaid over $50,000 over a 2 year and this underpayment was required to be paid to the employee on top of the fine to the business owners.
